Bayer Leverkusen 0-0 Roma (Ageria 0-1): Jose -News

Roma hold goalless draw in Europa League final in Budapest

Jose Mourinho’s Roma reached the Europa League final with a draw against Bayer Leverkusen in the second leg of the semi-final.

Edoardo Bove’s goal gave Italy a 1-0 first-leg win, which was enough for them to progress.

Moussa Diaby hit the crossbar for Xavi Alonso’s side in the first half of the second leg, but failed to find a breakthrough.

Roma advance to the final in Budapest on May 31.

Mourinho has won all five of his previous five European finals, including the Europa League with Roma last season.

With Leverkusen leading early on from behind, Diaby nearly equalized after being sent off down the right, only for his ferocious effort to rattle and bounce the crossbar.

Kerem Demirbe saw his low shot saved by Roma goalkeeper Rui Patricio shortly after, while Leverkusen were furious when the referee waved the game on when Sardar Aziz Mon appeared to be brought down by Bryan Christian just outside the box, while Patricio was beaten.

The home side pushed on in the second half, with Azmon’s shot just wide, but despite their territorial dominance, they struggled to create any clear-cut chances.

So, after not reaching a European final in 31 years before last season, Roma can look forward to a second in as many years.
