England’s MacIver withdraws from World Cup selection-News

MacIver has been part of several England teams but made his debut in February 2021

England goalkeeper Sandy MacIver has ruled himself out of this summer’s World Cup after an injury that ruined the end of his season.

The Manchester City star has one cap and is always behind first-choice Mary Earps.

However, he was left out of England’s squad for the Finals in April and will not play in Australia and New Zealand.

“I have made the decision to make myself unavailable for England selection,” the 24-year-old said.

“I’m still focusing on my rehab. I’m making a lot of progress and I hope to prepare well with City.”

MacIver was one of the four goalscorers in Sarina Wiegman’s former team along with Earps, Hannah Hampton and Ellie Roebuck – for Manchester City’s other contributors – before pulling out with a groin injury.

England’s European players have been hampered by injuries in preparing for this year’s World Cup, and Captain Leah Williamson certainly disagreed along with frontman Fran Kirby.

Senior shooter Beth Mead I doubt it again due to a long-term anterior cruciate ligament injury while defenders Lucy Bronze and Millie Bright are also struggling with injuries.
