Juventus have been suspended for 10 points following what have been rumors of a change in the team.
Juve were initially given a 15-point penalty in January but the stadium is the best in Italy reversed that decision in April and ordered that the case be re-examined.
The new decision was announced on Monday, before the team’s 4-1 defeat at Empoli.
The penalty drops Juve to seventh place in Serie A, outside the European qualification spots.
Napoli have already secured the Serie A title and, before Monday’s decision, were 17 points clear of second-placed Juve.
“It was amazing, 10 minutes before the decision,” Juve coach Massimiliano Allegri said.
“To summarize the season on an evening like this is absurd. Juventus are used to winning, we have to close.”
In April, the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) court overturned Juve’s 15-point penalty from the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) appeal court.
It asked the appeals court to review the sanctions imposed on the group and other key figures, including former vice-chairman Pavel Nedved, who was initially suspended for eight months.
Nedved has now been released along with club officials Paolo Garimberti, Assia Grazioli Venier, Caitlin Mary Hughes, Daniela Marilungo, Francesco Roncaglio and Enrico Vellano.
The long-term suspension of former chairman Andrea Agnelli, former CEO Maurizio Arrivabene and sporting director Federico Cherubini is Fabio Paratici now it’s done.
The words of Juventus it said the club “recognizes” the decision and “reserves the right to read the grounds for an appeal” to CONI.
It added: “What was established by the fifth decision in this case, which began more than a year ago, is very angry with the group and among its millions of followers who, in the absence of clear rules, find themselves severely punished. and the use of sanctions that seem to take into account the principle of equality.
“Even without ignoring the importance of urgency, which Juventus has not hidden during the proceedings, it emphasizes that these are facts that must still be evaluated by the judge.”
Juve’s loss at Empoli on Monday leaves them five points behind AC Milan, who are in last place in the Champions League, with two games to play – and Juve host Milan on Sunday.
The club is also embroiled in accounting scandals, with 12 current and former officials, including Agnelli, due to stand trial.
According to Italian media, the Supreme Court on October 26 will decide whether any trial will be held in Turin, where the investigation has been conducted, or in Milan or Rome.
Why are Juventus suspended points?
The Old Lady was stripped of points after an investigation into the team’s two-year change from 2019 to 2021 by the FIGC.
Juventus have been accused of falsifying their documents with artificial profits of around 60m euros from club transfers, charges which the FIGC appeals court found them guilty of in January.
But the team denied wrongdoing and took their case to the court of the Olympic Committee, Italy’s largest sports body.
The court did not rule on the merits of the case but instead analyzed the sanctions imposed by the FIGC on the group and its directors.
Juventus were among a number of Serie A clubs who were denied transfers by the FIGC appeals court last year, but the club’s investigation has been reopened following new evidence from another investigation into their finances.
The original sentence of 15 points was stronger than the nine points that prosecutors had requested, and the team hopes that no points will be dropped when the case is re-examined.
Who are the people involved?
Agnelli and the rest of the team resigned in November while the investigation is underway.
At the time, the statement said that the resignation “seems to be the most effective way to make Juventus have a new management team to deal with these problems”.
The chairman led the club for 13 years, during which Juventus won nine consecutive Serie A titles and reached the Champions League final.
But last year they lost £220m – a record for an Italian club.
Agnelli and Arrivabene were banned from Italian football for two years, while Cherubini and Paratici were banned for 16 months and two-and-a-half years respectively.
Paratici left the club to become director of football at Tottenham before the January decision, but his ban was extended internationally by Fifa in March.
Juventus is also facing an investigation by Uefa, European soccer’s governing body, over potential violations of club licensing and financial regulations, which were announced in March.
