Scorecard |
Lancashire Lightning recorded their second successive T20 Blast win as they beat Leicestershire Foxes by eight wickets at Old Trafford.
Last year’s champions bowled the Foxes for 99 in the 19th over as only two batters made double figures.
England bowlers Luke Wood and Saqib Mahmood each picked up three wickets as the batsmen went down at regular intervals.
Steven Croft then hit an unbeaten 46 as Lancashire reached their target with 8.3 overs in hand.
After winning their first game against Derbyshire Falcons on Saturday Lancashire had the chance to welcome back new T20 captain Liam Livingstone and Phil Salt from the IPL to emphasize their strength in depth.
This will only increase as England captain Jos Buttler returns from playing for Rajasthan Royals, starting with the Roses’ game in Yorkshire next Thursday.
The Foxes, three-time winners of the tournament, opted to bat first, but lost their top three inside four overs to leave them 23-3.
Unfazed as he continued to lose wickets, South African batsman Wiaan Mulder top scored with 25 and no more than 26 runs, while Wood was the pick of the bowlers with a best of 3-11 from his four overs.
With a low chase rate, there was little pressure on the batsmen, which was further reduced by a second wicket partnership of 60 between Salt and Croft.
Salt was removed for 28 with smart catches from Rishi Patel, Croft and New Zealand all-rounder Daryl Mitchell before they climbed to 105-2 in the 12th over.
