The Secret Service has arrested one person after a U-Haul truck crashed into barriers in Washington’s Lafayette Square, near the White House, on Monday night.
According to a few local news outlets, the incident occurred around 10 p.m. local time, causing law enforcement to close access to the area.
Secret Service he said the driver of the vehicle was detained by uniformed officers after the incident and “no Secret Service or White House personnel were injured.”
While the exact cause of the accident is being investigated, eyewitnesses referred to by local media claim that the driver was deliberately trying to ram the truck into the premises of the White House.
CBS affiliate WUSA9 registered that investigators recovered what appeared to be a Nazi flag from the truck.
