Slot rules himself out of Tottenham contention-News

Arne Slot says he wants to stay on as Feyenoord manager – putting himself out of contention for the Tottenham job.

Dutchman Slot had been heavily linked with a move to Spurs following Antonio Conte’s sacking in March.

Slot, 44, led Feyenoord to the 2022-23 Eredivisie title, and talks took place on Wednesday over a new contract at the Rotterdam club.

“I’ve been hearing a lot of rumors about someone being interested in me,” said Slot.

“Although I’m grateful, I want to stay at Feyenoord and continue what we did last year.

“There are – and there have never been – transfer talks and yesterday’s meeting was just an extension. All talks with the team have been like that. We are looking forward to the next season with Feyenoord.”

After Conte is sacked, Cristian Stellini was appointed as Spurs’ interim manager but he was he has been fired after four games in charge.

Ryan Mason became interim manager for the second time, having held the role briefly at the end of the 2020-21 season.

Spurs have taken just four points from six games, and play struggling Leeds in their last game on Sunday.

Lots to follow.
