Bryan Mbeumo’s superb double gave Brentford a comeback win and spoiled Tottenham’s final home game of a miserable season.
Mbomo scored twice into the far corner early in the second half before team-mate Joan Wiesa equalized as Brentford reversed Tottenham’s first-half lead gained by captain Harry Kane .
strike mate ivan toney a few days later Banned for eight months By breaching the FA’s betting rules, Mbomo has shown Brentford fans they can count on him to deliver.
It was a moment of magic for Kane, whose future at Tottenham was in doubt, as he scooped a brilliant free-kick into the top corner.
It inspired his teammates, who were full of confidence and talent to create countless chances they should have passed up.
Although Brentford responded immediately in the second half, their ruthlessness was punished – Mbomo took his chance and hit goalkeeper Fraser Foster with two shots in the space of 12 minutes.
Any chance of a late equalizer for Tottenham disappeared when substitute Shandon Baptise took possession of Oliver Skipp and Mbeumo provided Wissa with a comfortable finish.
It was another moment to sum up Tottenham’s season – hopeful before overwhelming results.
Their desperate hopes of qualifying for Europe are fading fast, and Brentford know they will finish a successful season in the Premier League’s top 10.
As Mbeumo shines, Spurs face same problem

With few games to play, much of the pre-match focus was on Kane and his future at Tottenham, as fans visited a newly painted mural of the record goalscorer across the road from the stadium.
It was his 300th start in the Premier League for Tottenham Hotspur, but it remains to be seen how much more that number will increase.
He shined in the opening stages alongside Son Heung-min, who also had a couple of chances in the first half.
Brentford’s Rico Henry made a crucial goal-line clearance to deny Emerson Real and Arnold Danjuma an inch-wide diving header from Son Heung-min’s cross.
Aside from a couple of first-half chances from Kevin Shad and a dangerous cut-back, Brentford gave goalkeeper Foster little trouble until the second half.
But they started on the front foot after half-time, getting behind the Spurs defense and feeding Mbeumo, who scored both goals brilliantly.
Since then, the atmosphere in the stadium has changed, with the familiar sense of defeat set in, with Brentford’s backers adding to the pain with tongue-in-cheek chants.
Just as Spurs began to test Brentford’s defense again, Skipp conceded an unforgivable ball on the edge of his own box. Spurs took the penalty and Visa calmly stroked Foster.
Richarlison, who came off the bench in stoppage time, was brilliantly headed over the bar by David Raya, but some Tottenham fans had already started leaving the pitch – many of them People didn’t stop for a pre-planned lap to mark Tottenham’s final home game of the season.
