“The Duchess of Edinburgh is deeply saddened to hear of the death of Helen Holland,” Buckingham Palace said. “Her Royal Highnesses extend their deepest condolences and sympathies to all of Ms Holland’s family.”
Holland’s son Martin told the BBC his mother died after suffering “multiple fractures and serious internal injuries”. Holland, from Essex, has reportedly been visiting her sister in London.
Her son said she “had fought for her life for almost two weeks…but the irreversible damage to her brain finally put an end to that battle today.”
